This Old Man Who Begs For Food Speaks English Fluently And Was A Former Professor In UP, Ateneo

In our everyday lives, coming across beggars on the street is quite a normal situation, especially in the Philippines.
Some begs for money while other begs for something to eat. These beggars have different styles in asking for help; some of them carries a baby as props, some will show you a drug prescription saying that they need money to buy medicine, others will hand you a letter saying their house got caught on fire and they need financial assistance, and many more tactics that are sometimes too good to be true.
But one experience shared by a netizen is nothing like the rest.
A student named Faye Ares shared her story when she met an old man last May 7, 2017, while she was walking around the mall and thinking if she will have her lunch in Chowking or Jollibee, an old man approached him and begs for food. While it may sound a typical beggar style, what surprised Faye is that the old man speaks the English language very fluently.
The man asked her: “Miss, I’m sorry but I have to tell you something. Please don’t get mad. And Sorry to bother you but I’m not gonna ask for money, I’ll be asking for food to eat ‘coz I’m hungry,”
Faye agreed and led the stranger to Jollibee. At first the old man was shocked but still happy to have someone helped him. Upon entering the fast food chain, Faye requested the old man to look for an available seat while she orders their food; as soon as Faye arrived on their table carrying something to eat the man was relieved thinking that she already left him.
While eating, they had an exchange of conversation where Faye discovered that the old man’s name is Jansen Locson, a 70-year-old man who graduated from Ateneo de Manila and a former UP and Ateneo professor. Jansen does not have his own family, only two sisters left after his father died. He was in Cebu for a business but unfortunately it didn’t go well leaving him bankrupt.
After filling up their stomach and chatting about their lives, Faye handed Jansen a bottle of water and a hundred pesos which he totally refused. Faye insisted for him to accept the money so he can buy something when he gets hungry again. Jansen accepted Faye’s help and asked for her contact number so he could thank him again, after that they exchanged goodbyes and went on separate ways.

Faye also encourages netizens to share Jansen’s story so it could reach his family in Bacolod, she added that the old man could be found living near SM mall.
